Man City take the lead in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final
Tottenham Hotspur 0-1 Manchester City
Tottenham Hotspur's hopes of reaching the Champions League semi-finals suffered a blow as they lost 1-0 to Manchester City in the first leg of their quarter-final tie at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Tuesday. Dejan Kulusevski scored the only goal of the game in the 10th minute, finishing off a fine move involving Riyad Mahrez and Kevin De Bruyne. Tottenham had chances to equalise but failed to take them, with Harry Kane hitting the post in the second half. The result leaves Man City in a strong position ahead of the second leg at the Etihad Stadium on April 14. Tottenham started the game brightly and had the first chance when Son Heung-min fired wide from the edge of the box. But it was Man City who took the lead on 10 minutes. Mahrez played a lovely pass to De Bruyne, who crossed for Kulusevski to tap home from close range. Tottenham tried to respond but found it difficult to create clear-cut chances. Kane had a header saved by Ederson on 15 minutes, and Son fired over from a good position on 25 minutes. Man City were happy to sit back and defend their lead, and Tottenham struggled to break them down. The home side did have a chance to equalise on 55 minutes when Kane was played through on goal, but the England captain hit the post. Tottenham continued to press but could not find a way through. Man City held on for a vital victory that puts them in a strong position ahead of the second leg.
