Afghanistan Vs South Africa Warm Up Match 2023

South Africa win warm-up victory over Afghanistan in World Cup preparation

Proteas cruise to nine-wicket triumph

South Africa have cruised to a nine-wicket victory over Afghanistan in their opening warm-up match for the 2023 Cricket World Cup in Australia.

The Proteas were always in control of the contest at the Allan Border Field in Brisbane, bowling Afghanistan out for just 140 before chasing down the target with more than 20 overs to spare.

Kagiso Rabada was the star of the show for South Africa with the ball, taking 3-39 from his 10 overs. Anrich Nortje also impressed, taking 2-16 from his eight overs.

Afghanistan's innings was built around a battling 51 from captain Hashmatullah Shahidi, but he lacked support from his teammates.

In reply, South Africa openers Quinton de Kock and Janneman Malan made light work of the chase, putting on 78 for the first wicket before Malan was dismissed for 36.

De Kock went on to make an unbeaten 75, while Aiden Markram finished on 26 not out as South Africa cruised to victory.

The victory is a timely boost for South Africa, who are looking to make a strong impact at the World Cup. The Proteas are ranked third in the world and will be one of the favorites to win the tournament.

Afghanistan, meanwhile, will be disappointed with their performance, but they will have another chance to impress in their second warm-up match against Pakistan on Monday.
