Inferno on Monte Mario

A raging inferno has engulfed a seven-story building on Monte Mario in Rome, threatening nearby homes and forcing the evacuation of six apartment blocks and the headquarters of Italian public broadcaster RAI. The towering column of smoke can be seen from miles around.

Tragic Loss and Injuries

Tragically, the fire has claimed one life, that of 80-year-old Antonio DAmato. Three others have sustained serious injuries. In a separate incident, a fire in a renovation project on Via Edoardo d'Onofrio has left one victim deceased and multiple people gravely injured.

Ongoing Emergency

Firefighters are battling the blaze, but the situation remains critical. Thick smoke has obscured visibility, making it difficult to access and extinguish the flames. Evacuated residents are being sheltered in temporary housing as the emergency services work to contain the fire and assess the damage.
