Mets Blackburn Back To Skip Blue Jays Series

Mets' Blackburn (back) to skip Blue Jays series

Mets' Chris Bassitt to start Tuesday's game

Bassitt will replace David Peterson in the rotation

New York Mets right-hander Chris Bassitt will start Tuesday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays, replacing David Peterson in the rotation, manager Buck Showalter said Monday.

Bassitt was originally scheduled to start Wednesday's series finale, but the Mets decided to move him up a day to give him an extra day of rest before his next start.

Peterson will now start Wednesday's game.

Taijuan Walker expected to start Thursday

Taijuan Walker is expected to start Thursday's series opener against the Milwaukee Brewers, Showalter said.

Walker has been on the injured list since July 12 with a right shoulder impingement.

He made a rehab start for Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday and allowed two runs on three hits in 3 1/3 innings.

Max Scherzer to start Friday

Max Scherzer is scheduled to start Friday's game against the Brewers, Showalter said.

Scherzer has been on the injured list since July 19 with a left oblique strain.

He made a rehab start for Double-A Binghamton on Saturday and allowed one run on two hits in 3 2/3 innings.

Mets rotation set for Blue Jays series

The Mets' rotation for the upcoming series against the Blue Jays is as follows:

  • Tuesday: Chris Bassitt
  • Wednesday: David Peterson
  • Thursday: Taijuan Walker
  • Friday: Max Scherzer
